How trade pricing works

Almost every home repair bill has three parts: a service call fee for coming out ($75 to $250), labor by the hour or a flat rate for the job, and parts. The fee is often credited toward the repair if you say yes. Labor has a minimum, usually one or two hours. Parts are marked up 20 to 50 percent unless you buy them yourself.

Three questions to ask before you book: Is the service call fee credited to the repair? What is the minimum charge? Is this quote flat rate or hourly?
