What a LASIK price should include
Advertised starting prices often apply only to mild prescriptions or older technology. Before you compare quotes, ask whether the price covers the pre-op exam, the surgery on both eyes, all follow up visits, and any enhancement if your vision needs a touch up.
Many refractive surgeons charge one price for all laser vision correction, including PRK and SMILE, according to All About Vision.
You can usually pay with a flexible spending or health savings account, which lowers the real cost by your tax rate.
How to judge the quote in your hand
- Ask per eye or both eyes.
- Ask if enhancements are included.
- Ask which laser and technology.
- Ask about follow up visits.
- Ask about the surgeon's experience.
Ways to pay less
- Use an FSA or HSA.
- Check vision plan discounts.
- Compare two surgeons.
- Ask about financing.
Before you decide
This page covers prices only. It is not medical or dental advice. Talk to a licensed provider about what treatment you need, and ask for a written estimate and your insurer's pre-authorization before you start.
All About Vision puts the average near $2,250 per eye. That lines up with our $2,246 average. SightMD, a large practice in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, lists $1,950 to $2,700 per eye in 2026. Both eyes run $3,900 to $5,400 there. Most surgeons quote per eye. Always check if an ad price is for one eye or two. Say both eyes cost $4,500. In 2026 the most you can put in a health FSA is $3,400. If you fund the full $3,400, you pay the other $1,100 from your own money. Because FSA money is taken out before tax, you save the tax on the $3,400. If you have an HSA, you can use money saved from past years too. Ask your employer if they have a LASIK discount deal with a local surgeon. Low ads under $1,000 per eye often cover only mild prescriptions, or leave out follow up visits. Ask what the price covers before you book. Checked September 2026. About $2,246 per eye on average in 2026. About $4,492 at the average price. Usually not. An FSA or HSA can usually be used. Low prices often apply only to mild prescriptions.More LASIK price checks
