    The repair bill after the mold bill

    Remediation removes the mold. It does not always put the room back. SERVPRO cites HomeAdvisor 2026 data: drywall repair or replacement runs $1,000 to $2,900, and carpet $775 to $2,600. Ask whether your quote includes rebuild or stops at clean and dry.

    Fix the water first. Mold needs moisture. A leak, poor ventilation or a wet crawl space will bring it back after the best cleanup.

    Test or not

    If you can see mold and know the cause, you often do not need a lab test to know it has to go. Testing helps when you smell mold but cannot find it, or when you need proof for a sale or a landlord. Some states license mold assessors and remediators separately so the tester is not the seller.
