How we calculate this

Prices are for the United States in 2026 from published cost guides, checked September 2026. This is an estimate, not a quote.

    Middle $1,750$500 to $3,000

    Cost by method

Self leveling compound$1 to $5 per square foot. Only for slabs that have sunk less than an inch, with the cause already fixed.
Mudjacking$3 to $8 per square foot. Angi reports $3 to $6, and a typical job at $661 to $1,871, about $1,232 on average.
Stone slurry grout$6 to $15 per square foot. Crushed limestone pumped under the slab. Sits between mud and foam.
Polyurethane foam$5 to $25 per square foot, about $15 on average. HomeGuide reports $8 to $25.
Whole job, mudjacking$585 to $5,400 or more, from a national leveling franchise.
Whole job, foam$875 to $8,100 or more, from the same franchise.
Minimum job charge$300 to $700. It makes small jobs cost more per square foot.
Permit$50 to $200 in the few towns that ask for one.

    What pushes a quote up

The methodThe single biggest driver. Foam can cost up to four times as much as mudjacking per square foot.
Square feetMost companies price by area, and small jobs hit the minimum charge.
How far it has sunkMore lift means more material pumped under the slab.
AccessSlabs behind fences, against the foundation or under a cover take extra hose and handwork.
The soilLoose, sandy or wet soil may need to be stabilized first. Some bids include that and some do not.

    Concrete leveling cost by region

Lower cost states$400 to $2,400. Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, West Virginia and most rural areas.
Average cost states$500 to $3,000. Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and most mid size cities.
Higher cost states$650 to $3,900. California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington, plus big metros such as Chicago, Denver and Washington DC.

These rows are our estimate. We took the typical national range and adjusted it for local labor costs, which run about 20 percent lower in the cheapest states and about 30 percent higher in the dearest ones. Freeze and thaw cycles in the North and shrinking clay soils in the South and Plains both cause sunken slabs, so leveling companies are common in most states.

Mud or foam: what the extra money buys

Both methods do the same thing. The crew drills holes in the sunken slab, pumps material underneath and the slab rises back to level. The difference is what goes in the hole.

Mudjacking pumps a slurry of cement, sand, soil and water. It is the oldest method and the cheapest. The slurry is heavy, about 100 to 150 pounds per cubic foot, and that weight sits on the same weak soil that let the slab sink the first time. The holes are one to two inches wide and you will see the patches. Results last about 5 to 10 years.

Foam pumps in a two part polyurethane that expands and hardens. It weighs 2 to 4 pounds per cubic foot. The holes are about five eighths of an inch, close to the size of a dime. It cures in about 15 minutes, so you can drive on it the same day. Results last 10 to 15 years or more. The foam itself is the costly part: material cost alone pushes foam 20 to 50 percent above other methods.

    A rule of thumb

Angi calls foam overkill for sidewalks and patios, and a strong choice for driveways and anything structural. That matches how the prices work. On a small walkway you will hit the $300 to $700 minimum charge with either method, so the gap is small. On a big driveway the gap can be thousands of dollars, and so can the difference in how long the fix lasts.

    When to replace instead

New concrete costs $6 to $15 per square foot, and replacing a full slab runs $2,000 to $10,000. If the slab is badly cracked or crumbling, leveling only gives you a level broken slab. If the slab is sound and has simply sunk, leveling is the cheaper job by a wide margin. Either way, the fix lasts only if the cause is dealt with: a downspout dumping water beside the slab, soil washing out, or soil that was never packed down.

How to judge the quote in your hand

    Ways to pay less

Why this costs more in 2026

Lifting foam is a petroleum product, and the pump rig is a heavy truck.

Since the war with Iran began in late February 2026, oil has been the cost that moved. AAA put diesel above $6 a gallon for the first time on September 11, 2026, against about $3.70 a year before (CBS 8 reporting AAA). Trade groups saw it early: by March, construction input prices were up 4.8 percent in a year and diesel had its largest one month rise since 1990, at 37.8 percent (Roofing Contractor, April 2026). Common questions

How much does concrete leveling cost?

$500 to $3,000 for most home projects in 2026, or $3 to $25 per square foot depending on the method.

    Is mudjacking or foam cheaper?

Mudjacking, at $3 to $8 per square foot against $5 to $25 for foam. Foam is lighter, cures in minutes and lasts longer.

How long does concrete leveling last?

About 5 to 10 years for mudjacking and 10 to 15 years or more for foam, if the cause of the sinking is fixed.

Is it cheaper to level or replace concrete?

Leveling costs about 50 to 75 percent less when the slab itself is sound. Replacement runs $6 to $15 per square foot.

    Can I level concrete myself?

A self leveling compound at $1 to $5 per square foot is a fair DIY job for dips under an inch. Lifting a sunken slab needs a pump truck and a trained crew.
