    Recurrent notes that battery replacements are rare for modern Teslas, and Jouleio cites Recurrent data that only about 3 percent of owners face an out of warranty replacement. Tesla's battery and drive unit warranty runs 8 years and up to 120,000 miles on the Model 3 and Model Y, depending on the version, and qualifying failures inside it cost nothing.

    If you are outside the warranty, do not assume the whole pack is gone. Recharged notes that a growing number of Tesla specialist shops fix single modules, coolant leaks, contactors and wiring for a few thousand dollars. Get a diagnosis from an independent high voltage shop before you accept a full pack quote.

    Buying a used Tesla

    Ask for a battery health report and check the remaining warranty. A pack with most of its range and years of coverage left is worth paying more for.

    Why this costs more in 2026

    Battery cell prices have fallen, but installed prices stay high because of labor, freight on a pack of about 1,000 pounds, and warranty.
