What a BOP covers and what it does not

A BOP bundles three things. General liability covers injuries and damage to others. Commercial property covers your building, gear and stock. Business interruption covers lost income if a covered event, like a fire, shuts you down.

A BOP does not cover workers comp, commercial vehicles or professional mistakes. Those need their own policies.

    Who can get one

Insurers usually sell BOPs to small, lower risk businesses like shops, offices and small restaurants. Big or risky businesses may need separate policies.

    Ways to pay less

    Before you decide

    A worked example

Say a small bakery pays $45 a month for general liability and $60 a month for property cover bought apart. That is $105 a month. A BOP with the same limits might cost about $90, saving about $180 a year, plus it adds lost income cover.
